Basic Research results in a selection of underlying
technologies that are brought to bear on the customer design requirement. A
continuing focus on fundamental research provides Airex with alternative
choices that are employed to optimize the design approach. A unique blend of
technology selections is typical of our design implementations. Airex is a
recognized leader in bringing state-of-the-art technology to commercial design
strategies. |

The Final Technology Selection is a down select of basic
research solutions. The appropriate combination of select technologies will
reduce cost, improve performance and deliver unparalleled product quality over
the product life cycle. These elements affect all aspects of the design from
product structure to final configuration including material selection, design
topology, component interface, manufacturing cycle, production cost, time to
market, etc. |
 |
Final Design decisions result in the Proof of
Concept prototypes. Prototypes are fully tested to assure the suitability
of the components for the intended application. Design goals and product
specifications established early in the program are evaluated against empirical
tests. Fully traceable, electronic data collection combined with statistical
analysis and Design of Experiments techniques insure independence between the
test and the specification. The incorporation of electronic breadboards, rapid
prototyping and active design models is combined with concurrent manufacturing
design to meet the product goals. |
 |
Applications Engineering uses electronic spreadsheets,
simple models and historical data to determine the applicability of a process
or component to a given application. Applicability is based on criteria
appropriate to the end use for the target market, including volume, cost,
environment, life and regulatory compliance. |
 |
Component Development at Airex extends from product
conception through customer satisfaction. The ultimate goal is to incorporate
the component into the customer system. This requires that important inputs to
the design be recognized early in the development process. This includes such
issues as cost, availability of subcomponents, delivery and compatibility of
materials. |
 |
Advanced Research investigates fundamental elements of the
problem and identifies a solution. Airex has a broad range of choices in our
solution set and a history of thinking outside the box. Experience in
state-of-the-art technology and unsurpassed analytical tools combine to
influence the final solution. The approaches developed at this level are
incorporated into the final design approach. |
 |
Documentation of the final component configuration is
provided in compliance with our ISO 9001 Quality Program. Documentation begins
with a contract review and is carried through the program in design books
maintained by all project contributors. This creates a clear view of both the
design and the build process. The documents evolve in a comprehensive data base
that delineate design changes and expands into complete production
processes. |
 |
Prototyping of the new design minimizes risk by validating
assumptions and exposing unforeseen issues early in the design cycle.
Performance is fully tested at the application level under actual operating
conditions. Qualification tests can be initiated during this period such as
life, vibration, thermal, humidity, shock or radiation
testing. |
